Designed for those seeking maximum lightness and minimum bulk. Designed for sport climbing and quickdraw use. The contact surfaces are wider to reduce wear and improve rope passage. The D-shape transfers most of the load to the main axis of the carabiner, which is the strongest.
The asymmetrical shape is also ideal for connecting belay or rappel devices or for use at the end of a lanyard.
The wire gate allows for a lighter, smoother carabiner with a longer lifespan than traditional gates.
The reduced weight of the wire gate makes it less vulnerable to the phenomenon of "gate flutter" (a very dangerous condition created by irregular impact forces produced by the climbing rope or contact with hard surfaces during a fall temporarily opening the gate).
