The Joker is the most popular rope in its range and the first triple-rated rope on the market (single, half, twin). Since the early 2010s, it has become an essential choice for climbers seeking performance in sport climbing or multi-pitch routes.

It is a pleasant, fluid, and very dynamic rope.

Rope Features and Standards

Unicore technology permanently bonds the core and sheath. Concretely, this means that if the sheath is damaged, it remains in place instead of bunching up (sock effect), allowing the rope to remain usable during a rappel or at the end of a pitch. The Dry Cover treatment protects the sheath against moisture and abrasion, maintaining good handling qualities in wet belays, damp starts, and on abrasive rock. The rope also incorporates Thermo Fluid technology, a heat treatment applied to the sheath fibers to homogenize the material's structure. This results in a rope that is more fluid to the touch, more consistent in its behavior, and more stable over time.

  • Type: single, half, and twin rope. A single rope covers very different climbing styles, useful if you alternate between sport climbing and multi-pitch routes.
  • Diameter: 9.1 mm. Thin enough to limit weight, while remaining comfortable to handle in belay devices during long days.
  • Weight: 52 g/m. Less weight on approach and less friction in the system when carrying full gear.
  • Standards: EN 892 and UIAA certified for single, half, and twin configurations. In the field, this guarantees validated performance regardless of the mode of use.
  • Dynamic elongation (single): 34%. A softer impact better protects gear and softens falls in sport climbing.
  • Static elongation: 8%. Less stretch under load, for cleaner belays, more efficient hauling, and more precise movements.

Dynamic Rope for Crag and Multi-pitch

The Joker is particularly effective in two contexts. At the crag, its low weight and maneuverability reduce fatigue during repeated attempts, especially when handling the rope all day. On long approaches, this small footprint is also an advantage when the rope remains on your back for several hours.

The triple certification opens up several usage strategies. It can be used as a classic single rope in sport climbing, or combined in a half or twin rope system when the route demands better rope management and more redundancy.

Triple-Rated Rope for Flexible Strategies

The first question to ask is whether you really need a rope capable of performing multiple functions. Most ropes are designed around one primary use, sometimes two. The Joker is a truly versatile choice when you want a single rope without sacrificing handling quality.

As a single rope, it is suitable for sport climbing and multi-pitch routes. As a half rope, it improves strand separation and reduces drag on winding pitches. As a twin rope, it adapts to more specific terrains where both strands are clipped together.

Lightweight Design, 52 g/m for Versatile Climbing

At 52 g/m, the Joker is in the lighter end of this category. Combined with a 9.1 mm diameter, it reduces weight without entering the category of ultra-thin, more nervous ropes. In practice, this facilitates long approaches and reduces overall fatigue on a full day.

This advantage is particularly noticeable for climbers who string together long pitches or walk long distances to access crags. The flexibility also helps to quickly give slack or pack the rope in tight belays. It is this balance between lightness and ease of handling that makes the difference.

Dry-Treated Rope with Unicore Durability

The Dry Cover treatment limits water absorption by the sheath and improves abrasion resistance. In the field, this allows for more consistent handling in wet conditions and better resistance to wear on aggressive rock.

Unicore technology provides additional durability by preventing sheath slippage in case of damage. This is a real safety advantage, not just a laboratory feature. It's a good choice for a rope intended for intensive use.

Available Lengths and Climbing Characteristics

The first thing to check is the rope length suitable for your usual routes. The Joker is available in several lengths, each corresponding to a different style.

  • 50 m: ideal for short sport climbing routes where an overly long rope is cumbersome, as well as for most multi-pitch routes.
  • 60 m: a good compromise for shorter crags and all multi-pitch routes.
  • 70–80 m: often the best choice for sport climbing in Europe; 80 m has become a standard in many major crags in France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Romania, and Turkey.
  • 100 m: the only length available in the Control-Safe version; the marking facilitates identification of the middle of the rope for added safety. Suitable for very long routes like those in Céüse, Saint-Léger, Chulilla, Geyikbayiri, etc., but also interesting for extending the rope's lifespan by allowing for multiple recuts.

All lengths use the same Unicore and Dry Cover construction. The choice therefore depends mainly on the length of the routes, descents, and the weight you wish to carry.
