Corsa Race – The world’s lightest certified racing ice axe

The CAMP Corsa Race was developed with one goal in mind: eliminating every unnecessary gram. Specifically designed for competitive ski mountaineering, it is widely recognised as the world’s lightest certified ice axe, weighing just 185 g in the regulation 50 cm length.

To achieve such an incredibly low weight, CAMP redesigned the axe from the ground up. The 7075 aluminium shaft has been lightened and machined around the grip area to remove every possible gram while maintaining the rigidity required by the EN 13089 Type 1 standard. The result is an ice axe you’ll barely notice on your pack during long climbs, while fully meeting the requirements of ISMF ski mountaineering competitions.

Its NiCrMo steel head delivers significantly better performance on hard snow than a fully aluminium ice axe. The specially shaped head is also compatible with the CAMP Corsa Leash (sold separately). Machined grip zones on the shaft provide excellent handling despite the removal of the internal anti-snow insert, a deliberate design choice made to save even more weight.

The Corsa Race is built for racers and Fast & Light mountaineers who spend most of their time on snow. However, it is not intended for ice climbing, mixed routes or step cutting, where a more robust ice axe is the better choice.

Our opinion at 4c+

The Corsa Race is a highly specialised tool, but within its intended purpose it is simply outstanding. If you’re training for ski mountaineering races or looking for the lightest possible equipment for objectives where every gram matters, you’ll struggle to find anything better. However, if your adventures involve ice, mixed terrain or more technical alpine climbing, we’d recommend the Corsa Alpine or Corsa Nanotech, both of which offer significantly greater versatility. The Corsa Race has one mission only: helping you move as fast as possible with the absolute minimum weight.
